September 17th is Constitution Day!!

Photo of the Constitution of the United States of America. A feather quill is included in the photo. The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the United States of America and is the oldest codified written national constitution still in force. It was completed on September 17, 1787.

On September 17, 1787 the delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the divinely inspired document they had created – The Constitution of the United States of America.

Did you know?

In Sept 2010, Montpelier’s Center for the Constitution released results of a national survey conducted to gauge knowledge of constitutional principles. Although 79 percent of those surveyed said they understood at least some of the Constitution, only 28 percent of the 988 people surveyed said they have actually read the entire document.  In addition, the survey showed that older people know more about the Constitution and are more likely to have read it.

Read about the study here and here. It’s quite enlightening and and also disappointing. Please don’t be part of the uneducated masses; we can make a difference by learning about the Constitution and teaching our families.

Check out WE THE PEOPLE – Getting to Know Your Constitution & for those who only have time for a day or so of study you can check out this lesson plan from icivics.org.
