WonderMaps: Customizable Maps (A Review)

I love maps! Finding just the right map for a particular subject is something to get giddy about, at least in my book, which is why I’m thrilled to share a review of WonderMaps from Bright Ideas Press.  This is a really neat program that offers map customization through the use of layers.  Let me show you an example:

Pretty cool huh?  If you can check or uncheck a box, you can use this program.

WonderMaps includes:

  • 60+ maps of the world
  • 60+ maps of the USA
  • 125+ historical maps, including 25 biblical maps
  • The complete map sets from The Mystery of History vols. I–III and All American History vols. I & II

And they are CUSTOMIZABLE!!!

In addition, you have these choices:

  • historical or modern-day maps
  • outline, reference, political, or topographical maps
  • black-and-white or color maps
  • features including:  names, borders, rivers, cities, physical features, and latitude and longitude measures.

Do you know what that means?  It means you can truly have it your way! AND you can use it for years to come with all your children.  You can start out with simple maps and then as your children grow, you can make them more complex.  There aren’t many products you can use from elementary age all through the high school years.

WonderMaps also includes several great resources in the Teacher’s Guide. One  of my favorites is 50 Bright Ideas for Using Outline Maps.  This is a list of very clever, yet simple ideas that I am certain we will implement throughout the years.

You can watch the WonderMaps Tutorial  Video here:

You can purchase WonderMaps at Timberdoodle for $44.95.  Considering the hours of research time you’ll save, the ability to use this for all of your children, and that it will remain useful throughout their whole educational experience, I figure this is a fair price for such a clever product.  We give WonderMaps a thumbs up!

  2. Hi Arwen, There is 1 full world projection with 12 different customizing layers. From the World Map, you can click specific continents or oceans to go to more focused maps each with their own customizing layers. You can't really tell from the images above, but the maps are very nice and professional. The colors are gorgeous!
