Our two week accounting (WR Oct 4 – 16)

WROCT4 Last week I failed to post our weekly review.  Although it was a typical week as far as our learning  is concerned, it was anything but in other ways.  We made Ships in a Bottle for a Columbus Day activity.  We spent hours on the river bank digging and enjoying nature.  And on Wednesday I was asked to accept a calling in the Relief Society (The women’s organization in our church). Taking on the responsibilities of the Relief Society President had me feeling nervous and sick for days.  The weight of it had me feeling quite overwhelmed at first.  I am happy to report that I am feeling better and adjusting. I am feeling motivated and inspired. ☺ And so life goes on.

This week has been good.  Actually it went really fast and I think I missed a few days somewhere.  The children did get about 2 hours or so of math in on Dreambox.  We’ve read quite a bit.  The children are reading individually and I am adding their choices to their monthly book logs. We have finished The Year Money Grew on Trees and Sarah, Plain, and Tall.  Both books brought on happy tears. What can I say?  I am a sap.  In addition, we have all learned the order of the books of scripture we’ve been working on.

We are currently reading aloud Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and guess what?  Dave Barry is speaking at the University just down the street next week.  I plan to go listen.

On the college front, Michael is past mid-term and doing very well.  He has A’s in all his classes except for 2 which are both over 89%.  It hasn’t been without it’s struggles. He has had to write papers on and study homosexuality in his Sociology, World History, Theatre Appreciation, and Composition classes.  It is a whole different world than when I went to college.  I don’t understand why this has to be included in everything and shoved down people’s throats.  Our world is obsessed with sex!  Can’t we study more important things here people?  OK…. I’m Ok. I just needed to get that out.  and NO, I am not a hater, but we used to study about people’s contribution to a subject without having to delve into their sex life.

Well that has been our week(s) in review and my rant. ☺

  1. I am shocked! I had no idea a college education, these days, would include such nonsense. Such a touch-y subject for this generation. We are being de-sensitized, or at least the effort is being made, whether we are aware of it or not.
